We can help you do this! Here are some simple explanations of what you need to do and buy.

1. You need to get your computers connected to each other. This requires some hardware, possibly software (depending on which solution you choose), cabling, and labour. Networking your computers in this "peer to peer" network also allows you to share files in other programs (such as Word or Excel) and a printer!

2. You need to choose which method of connecting your computers is best for you:

Method A: Proxy - Software Based
Advantages: lower cost
Watch out for: higher maintenance later, not as secure, only as stable as your software, one computer must be designated as a "host" computer and be connected to the internet for the other computer(s) to log on to the internet.
Parts and Costs: Proxy software - either Windows 98SE, Windows ME, or Windows 2000, Hub (about $50) and network cards for other computers (about $40 each), patch cables (one from each computer to the hub - about $1 per foot)
Notes on Cables: the cables can lay on the floor, be stapled to the wall/floor, you can install them however/wherever you'd like, or we can subcontract our electrician to install the cabling into your walls professionally.
Labour: our rate is $75/hr to do this networking/internet sharing. It can take between 1 and 5 hours (for 2-3 computers) depending totally the amount of cabling we do for you and how complicated your computers are with regards to amounts of software installed which could conflict with internet sharing.
Method B: Router - Hardware Based
Advantages: lower maintenance, added security, stable, any one of the computers in the network can connect with the internet independently of the others.
Watch out for: higher initial costs
Parts and Costs: Router (depending on brand - $100), network cards for the other computers (approximately $40 each), patch cables - one from each computer to the router (approximately $1/ft).
Notes on Cables: same as above
Labour: our rate is $75/hr to do this networking/internet sharing. With this hardware solution, it will most likely only take one hour (for 2-3 computers) again then depending on the amount of cabling we do for you and how much you have done or do yourself.
